Mystery petition attacks rumoured Honley Tesco plans

HONLEY businesses and residents are pledging to fight to stop Tesco opening a store in the village.

They say a new store would destroy the character of the village.

And in launching their fight they follow the lead of people in Holmfirth, who won a battle to stop the supermarket giant developing a site in new Mill Road.

The supermarket group have refused to confirm or deny plans to develop a redundant area of land, near to animal feed company Keith Drake Ltd, off Woodhead Road, Honley.

It is thought a third party company is looking to buy the land.

The intermediary company could then sell the land to another company.

Now a petition has been circulating in Honley village shops – but the author of the petition remains a mystery.

Support, however, for the petition has been growing.

Tony Washington, owner of Taylors Food Store, Meltham Road, is one of a number of Honley businessmen to support the petition.
