First Bus bosses ban sweltering bus drivers from wearing shorts

BUS drivers are getting all hot and bothered in Huddersfield.

They are upset that they are not being allowed to wear shorts in the current heatwave.

Bosses at First insist the drivers must wear their regulation uniforms – even though most of their passengers are in the skimpiest of outfits as the temperatures soar.

But drivers would like to return to the days when they were allowed to wear tailored shorts issued as part of their uniform.

One Huddersfield driver, who works out of the Bus Station, said: “It is extremely hot and uncomfortable in this weather.

“No-one is suggesting that we should wear vests and skimpy shorts, but a pair of tailored shorts could be smart and more comfortable.

“We have asked the managers if we can change the uniform, but they had said it is not company policy.

“It is very uncomfortable when a driver is on a long shift on a very hot day.
