A MASSIVE fire engulfed an award-winning farm shop and restaurant overnight.

Hinchliffe's farm shop and the Old Farmhouse Restaurant at Sunnyside Farm, Netherton Moor Road were badly damaged during the blaze.

Fire crews from across West Yorkshire worked throughout the night to save the buildings and the many rare breeds of animals and birds which are kept there.

Crews from Huddersfield, Brighouse, Marsden, Holmfirth, Meltham, Marsden, Batley, Morley and Hunslet helped fight the fire.

Propane gas cyclinders were also discovered at the scene which had to be cooled to prevent explosions.

"It was a very serious fire which started in the shop and quickly spread to the restaurant," he said. "We managed to save most of the animals on the site."

Fire investigators will be at the scene throughout the day trying to find out the cause of the blaze.
