Thousands expected to pack Huddersfield for Carnival today

THOUSANDS are today expected to pack St George’s Square for the 2010 Huddersfield Carnival.
And organisers were hoping the weather forecasts prove right.
Weathermen have predicted temperatures well above 20ºC – bringing a Caribbean feel to the proceedings.
The events will take place on a huge stage in the newly-renovated square, which was being erected yesterday.
There will be music and dance as well as spectacular costumes from community groups from all over Huddersfield and from towns elsewhere in the UK.
Events in the square are expected to get under way from about 3pm, after the traditional procession through the town centre.
The floats, bands and dancers were due to leave the Hudawi Centre at 2pm and make their way along St John’s Road, John William Street, Market Place, Cloth Hall Street and Market Street into the square.
Smaller music and dance events are planned for The Piazza and for St Peter’s Gardens and crowds of many thousands are expected.
