AN MP is backing residents in their fight against plans for two huge wind turbines.
Kirklees Council is currently weighing up whether to allow the 18-metre turbines to be set up at a property in Nettleton Hill.
Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney visited the hamlet near Golcar on Saturday to support residents fighting against the proposal.
Alan Warmby lives just 140 metres from the site of the proposed turbines.
He said: “Mr McCartney was very keen to support us and we also have the backing of the local councillors, 95% of the people in Nettleton Hill and many people in Longwood too, who would have to look up at these things.”
Mr Warmby added: “There are 36 properties in Nettleton Hill, of which 13 are Grade two listed. If this plan goes ahead it would forever change the nature of the area.”
The turbines would produce more than 100,000 kWh – 10 times the amount produced by the council’s two turbines at the Civic Centre.
Consultation on the proposal ended on July 6 and council officers will now decide if the plan can go ahead.
