A DRUNK who shouted his support for the murderer Raoul Moat had his fine waived – because he had been waiting all day in court.
Richard Schofield, of Caldercliffe Road in Berry Brow appeared yesterday at Huddersfield Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk and disorderly.
Despite imposing a fine of £50 for the offence, District Judge Hopkinson withdrew that amount because the defendant had been scheduled to appear in the morning, but had his case put back to the afternoon.
The 42-year-old had been drinking heavily on Tuesday, July 13, when officers were called to the cafe at Huddersfield Bus Station on Upperhead Row.
Witnesses said he had come into the station and sat down on the floor and started shouting.
They had called the police when he began repeatedly saying “Raoul Moat is a f****** hero”.
Murderer Moat shot himself after killing his ex-partner’s boyfriend, wounding her and blinding a police officer by shooting him in the face.
Prosecuting, Carole Lawford said Schofield had also been shouting anti-Millwall chants.
She added: “As a result of the disturbance he was arrested, handcuffed and taken away.”
