Kirklees Council orders landlord to blitz rubbish at Longley home

Rubbish in Dog Kennel Bank garden

THE LANDLORD of a house blighted by flytipping has been threatened with legal action by Kirklees Council bosses.

The owner of the property at Dog Kennel Ban, Longley – who is believed to live in Liverpool – has been ordered to clear piles of rubbish thought to have been dumped in the front garden by his previous tenants.

The landlord – whose name has not been revealed – has been given until the end of this week to blitz the site.

If they fail, Kirklees Council have pledged to serve legal papers and may even take steps to clear the garden, forcing the owner to foot the bill.

The sea of waste was ditched in the front garden last week after the previous tenants moved out.

Bin bags, furniture, cardboard boxes and clothing were among the items left behind.

It is thought wild animals – possibly foxes – have since ransacked the rubbish, leaving a bigger trail of mess to clear.

A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, noticed the unsightly heap last week and contacted the council.

She said: “I couldn’t believe it.

“I don’t really know much about who lived there, but I know they moved out last week.

“I personally think this was a parting shot.

“It just looks appalling.”

The property is currently being managed by Gallery estate agents in Huddersfield.

Managing director Dennis Goodridge said his staff had also raised concerns about the rubbish left behind and had been liaising with the council.

He said: “The tenants moved out last week and when we went up to do the outgoing inventory, we noticed the rubbish and warned the tenants.
