Marsh charity Joseph Salmon Trust’s accounts stolen in Edgerton burglary

BURGLARS stole vital information belonging to a Huddersfield charity when they raided an Edgerton house.

Thieves broke into the home of Alan and Lorraine Salmon overnight on Monday while they were away on holiday in Wales.

They took two flat screen televisions and jewellery during the raid, which was discovered when their son, Mark, went to check on the house on Wednesday.

A laptop computer containing the accounts for Marsh-based charity The Joseph Salmon Trust was also stolen in the incident.

The trust was set up by Alan and Lorraine’s son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Rachael, in memory of their son, Joseph, in 2008.

Joseph had died of pneumonia three years earlier.

The trust raises money to help other parents who have lost children.

Neil, 34, is desperate to get the laptop, an ASUS Netbook, back.

He said: “The burglars wouldn’t have known that it belonged to a charity, but it does feel like they’re even more heartless for having stolen it.

“It represents a lot of hard work and we have to submit the accounts at the end of the year.

“It’s worth hardly anything in terms of monetary value, maybe £100.

“But we really need it. It’s not life or death, but we want it back.”

It is believed the burglars targeted the front door of the property when they struck during the middle of the night.

Alan, 63, is treasurer for the charity and was given the laptop for free by Laptops Direct in Deighton to maintain the accounts.

Neil added: “To a little charity like us, it’s something we rely on.
