PLANS to provide a £3m factory for one of Huddersfield’s foremost engineering firms have taken a big step forward.
Sellers Engineers Ltd has a developer on board for its proposed 48,000sq ft factory at Trident Business Park, Deighton.
Sellers Engineers, which has 75 employees, is moving from Chapel Hill – its home for 98 years – to make way for the £150m Waterfront Quarter development.
That scheme includes a £75m campus for Kirklees College along with offices, apartments and leisure facilities.
Leeds-based Landmark Development Projects has secured a deal to develop the new factory on the 27-acre business park at Leeds Road.
The development will mark the final phase of the Trident scheme, which has been developed and sold in phases by LDP over the past five years.
Trident is already home to occupiers including retail group Instore, Mercedes Benz, Audi and the Wolseley Group.
The land earmarked for Sellers is owned by Aviva Investors Property Trust with LDP retained to carry out the development work.
Property consultancy Dove Haigh Philips acted for Sellers in securing the 15-year lease from the trust, which was represented by property agency Knight Frank.
Sellers is a world leader in the design and manufacture of finishing machines for the carpet industry.
The company also has premises in Dalton, Georgia, covering the USA, Canada and South America.
LDProjects has appointed GMI Construction to build the factory and two-storey offices for Sellers along with 90 parking spaces.
Work has now started on site and will be complete in January 2011. Sellers plans to occupy the factory fully in March next year after fitting-out has been completed.
Chris Gilman, director of LDP, said: “Having successfully developed the earlier phases of Trident Business Park, we worked closely with land owner Aviva Investors Property Trust, Sellers Engineers and Kirklees Council to facilitate the move to the new factory.
