Shepley parents smash fundraising target in memory of son
A COUPLE who lost their son at just two days old have smashed the fundraising target they set in his memory.
Megan and Matt Paskin’s first baby, Eddie, suffered major brain damage as a result of complications during his birth in September, 2008.
He was cared for by the special care baby unit at St James’s Hospital in Leeds before his death.
The Shepley couple embarked on a mission to raise £14,000 for the unit to buy a new ventilator.
But, 18 months on, they have exceeded that target by more than £10,000 to raise £24,500.
Megan, 31, said: “The care Eddie received at the unit was brilliant and the two days we got to spend with him meant so much to us.
“We decided fairly soon after he died we wanted to do something positive in his name and set ourselves a target of raising £14,000 – the amount needed to buy a new ventilator.
“At the time it seemed ambitious. We never dreamed we’d get £10,000 more than that.”
A ball, organised by Megan and her antenatal group at the North Light Gallery in Armitage Bridge, raised more than £6,000.
