Nine-week-old Staffy stolen in Lowerhouses break-in
BURGLARS stole a puppy in a daylight raid in Lowerhouses.
They broke into a house on Fanny Moor Crescent during the day on Monday and escaped with a nine-week old Staffordshire bull terrier called Mikey.
Owner Darren Fisher, 36, said: “I’d only had him for six weeks.
“I went out to town about 11am and when I got back the kitchen window had been smashed and someone had climbed in and taken him.
“I’m gutted.”
He said the animal was probably worth about £150.
The incident happened between 11am and 4pm.
Figures suggest Staffies are among the breeds most at risk of being stolen.
In 2007, the Metropolitan Police produced a report claiming they were being specifically targeted by thieves.
At the time, the breed made up 56% of all dogs stolen.
The report said some criminals may be using the dogs to guard criminal assets.
