Man crushed by gun carriage in Marsden war time re-enactment

A MAN is seriously ill in hospital after being crushed by a wartime vehicle at a procession.

The man was part of the convoy of military vehicles taking part in the Yanks procession, which was making its way from Saddleworth.

The procession had just pulled up into the Carriage House on Manchester Road in Marsden yesterday afternoon when the incident happened.

Witnesses described seeing a man in wartime uniform become trapped by one of the gun carriages the truck was towing.

And his injuries were last night described as serious but not life-threatening by police at the scene.

Pc Hall, of Kirklees Road Traffic Police, said the victim was part of a convoy that belonged to a Manchester-based wartime vehicle company.

They were involved in re-enacting scenes from the film Yanks, starring Richard Gere, which was filmed on location around the area in 1979.

The road traffic officer added: “They had just pulled into the car park at the Carriage House in Marsden at around 12.55pm. The gun carriage truck had stopped, the driver was trying to find a parking space, he got out of his vehicle and in the meantime, so did one of his passengers who stayed at the back of the truck.
