PROTECTING older people from domestic violence will be discussed after the death of an 82-year-old Calderdale man.
In July 2009, Harry Taylor died after a fall.
After a police investigation his daughter Barbara Taylor, 44, was arrested and later admitted the manslaughter of her father and the assault of her mother Bessie, 82.
It was the culmination of a series of incidents of domestic violence in the home against Mr and Mrs Taylor by their daughter, a heavy drinker who was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
A Serious Case Review found shortcomings around communication and in how risk assessments were carried out in relation to WYP Domestic Abuse Policy.
The report said: “It is apparent that there were breakdowns in the sharing and recording of information between the Divisional Response Officers and the Vulnerable Victims Unit (VVU) around the police interactions (with Barbara Taylor).
“West Yorkshire Police needs to ensure systems are in place so that the VVU is advised about all domestic abuse incidents and associated information in future.”
Scrutiny Panel Chair, Clr Ruth Goldthorpe said: “This was a very sad case.
