A COLLEGE lecturer from Huddersfield is on a mission to ensure children living in Africa don’t miss out on an education.
David Green, from Cambridge Road, Huddersfield has already raised enough cash to send hundreds of books to the junior school in Tanzania.
He and his colleagues at Wakefield College now aim to stage future fundraisers and forge strong links to the school which may see a scholarship scheme developed.
David, a lecturer in A Level history and politics, was inspired to raise money for the school by Tanzanian-born friend Frank Goyayi.
The 42-year-old lived with Frank while they were students at Huddersfield University.
Frank graduated with a degree in electrical engineering and a masters in business administration and returned to his home country around eight years ago.
David said: “He decided to set up a school near his mum’s village in Darussalam last year, called the Msangani Secondary School.
“It is a fee paying school as most secondary school places are in Tanzania and there’s a real lack of resources.
“The building had actually been there since 1997 but had to be put together bit by bit. The water hole supply had to be developed and the school was in need of everything from equipment like computers to education material like books.
