Have your say on new West Yorkshire Police commissioner idea
Aug 20 2010 by Sam Casey, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
THE public is being invited to decide what role the new police commissioner should play.
From 2012, West Yorkshire Police Authority, which oversees the work of the police force, will be replaced by an elected police and crime commissioner.
The official will decide police priorities and ensure the chief constable deals with them. They will also be responsible for setting the force’s budget and the proportion of council tax spent on policing.
The commissioner will have the power to hire and fire the chief constable. The current police authority wants to know what people think of the idea and what powers the commissioner should have.
