Emley's The Wentworth pub faces Kirklees Council licensing hearing

The Wentworth

A VILLAGE pub could lose its licence after a decade of complaints about noise.

Kirklees Council will review the licence of The Wentworth in Emley next week.

Residents complaining about the pub asked the council to remain anonymous.

One emailed Kirklees on July 13 to say: "We moved into our house in Emley in June 2007 and have regretted that decision ever since. We feel like we live in a prison due to the Wentworth."

The resident went on to describe a barbecue in their back garden in May which was ruined by "Wentworth clients shouting and swearing all afternoon."

The email continues: "The last three Christmases have been unbearable as there have always been parties until 3am.

"Last Christmas we literally ended up packing our belongings and staying at my mum’s on the other side of town. We should not have to do this."

Another resident emailed Kirklees on May 23 to complain about shouting, screaming and bad language coming from The Wentworth.

They wrote: "We had friends over and the noise and language were so bad we ended up having to go inside. It is becoming embarrassing, to the point that we don’t feel we can have family and friends over."

A third resident emailed the council on July 7 to say they couldn’t sell their home because of The Wentworth.

They wrote: "We have had numerous viewings of our house and as soon as the club is seen we do not get a reply back.

"We have had to reduce the price of our house dramatically because of this, which is very disheartening."

Pc Richard Farrand has also submitted a statement to Kirklees about The Wentworth.

On July 31 a resident complained to police that they could hear music and singing coming from the club at 1.53am – more than an hour after music was supposed to have stopped for the night.

Pc Farrand went to the club five days later to investigate.
