"As far as I’m concerned they made stadiums all seater to make them safe. If it’s not suitable for me and my son at Goodison, then surely it’s not safe for anyone to bring children to the game."

Everton responded saying that the congestion and number of spectators they are used to far exceeds that of Huddersfield Town.

Ray Foy, Everton’s head of security said: "Our prime concern was for the child.

"There is no lower age limit but all children, of any age, should have a ticket and thereby an allocated seat.

"The seats we relocated the lady and child to are normally reserved for disabled supporters and inherently more safe than a seat among the general crowd.

"They are set back some 10ft from the edge of the pitch and situated behind advertising hoardings.

"I can’t comment on how other grounds deal with similar issues suffice to say that we, at Everton, take the safety of everyone – especially vulnerable people – in our stadium very seriously and do not take action just for the sake of it.

"Another point is, we deal with far greater and congested crowds here at Goodison Park than they do at Huddersfield’s ground."
