Huddersfield criminals are being named and shamed in a virtual dock
OFFENDERS jailed for their crimes are being named and shamed online.
West Yorkshire Police are now publishing the names, photographs and details of defendant’s crimes.
It is part of a bid to highlight the process of dealing with criminals and telling residents what happens to those who have committed crimes in their neighbourhoods.
The force’s website now has an In The Dock section which will now feature those sentenced to three years or more.
Already a robber, burglar and drug dealer from Huddersfield and Dewsbury have been listed.
Stephen Forrest, temporary Inspector Neighbourhood Crime and Justice Co-ordinator for Kirklees, said: "Following on from the Louise Casey Review and a survey conducted where 90% of respondents stated that they were not told enough about what happens to those who have committed crime, In The Dock is now live for Kirklees."
The website shows that 22-year-old Jason Milner has been sentenced indefinitely, but will serve a minimum of three and a half years in prison.
Milner, 22, pleaded guilty at Bradford Crown Court on August 27 to a robbery at Church Street in Paddock in July 2009.
Dewsbury man Peter John Settle has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Settle, 23, from Westborough was found guilty for a burglary in the Thornhill Lees area.
He was sentenced on August 20 at Leeds Crown Court.
Mohammed Akmal, of Huddersfield, has been jailed for three years.
Akmal, 23, appeared for sentence at Bradford Crown Court on August 16 and was given a three-year sentence for each offence of supplying Class A drugs – namely heroin and cocaine – to run concurrently.
