Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney refuses to back breast feeding campaign

Jason McCartney

“I spent four months struggling before I gave up. I felt like an absolute failure.

“I tried everything, I couldn’t let it go.

“I now know if I’d have had the right support I would have been able to make it work.”

Mrs Hartley said after looking into the subject in more detail she had been able to breastfeed her second child Alfie without any problems.

She added: “Breastfeeding is natural but you have to learn it like walking, the baby needs to learn it too.

“I fed him everywhere, from the middle of church services to the canteen at work, it’s possible to do it discretely.

“The UK has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the developed world and nine out of ten women who stop breastfeeding before their baby is six weeks old would have liked to breastfeed for longer.

“50% of the babies admitted to hospital with diarrhoea wouldn’t be there if they were breast fed – and it’s free – once you’ve got the hang of it’s always there.”
