Despicable purse thieves in action in Huddersfield town centre

Our new weekly column written by Kirklees police officer Det Insp Mark Truelove concentrates on purse thieves this week

We believe the two women in the CCTV images may be able to help our inquiries into two thefts from shoppers in Huddersfield town centre shop Crawshaws Butchers on New Street.

The first happened to a 69-year-old woman on Tuesday, August 31.

CCTV evidence shows two women of Easter-European appearance entering a store next to the victim.

One looked very closely at the complainant’s bag and then stood to her right-hand side. The victim moved and the two women followed.

While the victim was looking at a meat counter, one of the women slipped her hand into her jacket pocket, took a black purse and walked out of the shop with it.

The other images are of an identical offence at Crawshaws on Monday, August 16 at noon when the victim was a 70-year-old woman.

Anyone with information should contact Crimestoppers anonymously and in absolute confidence on 0800 555 111.
