Gurmail Singh
THIS was the dramatic 999 call made to try and save Gurmail Singh.
The call was made by Ruth Stynes, who had gone to help the 63-year-old shopkeeper.
Ruth Stynes: “Can you hurry up please. Cowcliffe Convenience Stores at Fixby.”
Operator: “Have you reported something already?”
Ruth Stynes: “We have got a few lads robbing them. They’re smashing everything up now. We have locked them in the shop and they are...”
Operator: “Right, who has reported this? Have you reported this?”
Ruth Stynes: “Yeah. We are all stood out here in the main road, everybody.
“They’re out! They’re out!
“They’re running down the road now.”
Operator: “Right, I have no idea where you are. What’s your log number?”
Ruth Stynes: “Fixby, outside the Shepherd’s Arms pub at Fixby. Cowcliffe Stores...Get hold of them!”
Operator: “Stop shouting. I need a log number.”
Ruth Stynes: “Sorry, Cowcliffe Convenience Stores. They are running down...you are going to have to hurry up, they are running down towards Bradford Road now.”
After a brief conversation, Ms Stynes is then heard to say: “This is twice this week this man’s been robbed.”
She then says: “Oh, we need an ambulance. They have hurt him.”
