Is this Huddersfield's dumbest burglar? Read to find out why he could be

David Hanlon

Judge Peter Benson told Hanlon he had a dreadful record for house burglary and he noted that he had served lengthy prison sentences in 2000, 2003, and 2007.

Because of his previous record Hanlon faced a minimum three-year term but Judge Benson said that was wholly inadequate to meet the justice of the case.

“It seems to me that drug addiction is at the root of your offending but that's little consolation or excuse to the people whose houses you plundered,” the judge told him.

“You went on a rampage breaking into people's homes and stealing and all this was committed at a time when you were subject to licence from your last sentence of imprisonment for house burglaries.

“You are a persistent burglar who burgles on a grand scale. Although there are some amateurish features to your conduct which led to you being apprehended nonetheless you are a scourge to householders and burglary is a very serious matter which causes great distress to people whose houses are invaded and property taken.”

Judge Benson said Hanlon would also be banned from driving for two years.
