A spokesman from Kirklees Council said extra staff were being taken on to deal with admissions.
“On September 1 this year it became a government requirement for all school admissions to be managed by the council instead of individual schools.
“Staff were taken on to handle this new work, but demand has been very high at the beginning of the school year.
“Each application requires us to carry out checks with all the schools involved and this was not possible until schools returned from the summer holidays last week.
“However, we are working towards Charlie and Elanor being admitted to their new schools on Monday.
“We currently have three people working on the admissions process and efforts are being made to increase staffing as we fully recognise that it is very important to get children and young people back to school at the beginning of the academic year.
“This work is top priority. We are doing our best to make sure every child waiting to start at their new school can begin lessons as soon as possible.”
