A FATHER died from head injuries following an alleged attack in the street where he lived.
An inquest into the death of John Collins, from Brockholes, was opened in Huddersfield yesterday.
The inquest heard a postmortem was carried out on the body of the 55-year-old that revealed he died after sustaining “blunt force head injuries”.
Coroner Roger Whittaker adjourned proceedings until a criminal case into the death of Mr Collins is finished.
Now the postmortem has been carried out, Mr Collins’ body can be released for his funeral.
Mr Collins was allegedly attacked at Oakes Avenue as he went to pick up his 10-year-old daughter from a neighbour’s house at around 7.45pm on July 28.
Christopher Burton, 28, of Oakes Avenue, Brockholes, and Douglas Stephen, 28, of Sherbourne Avenue, Bootle, Merseyside, have been charged with murdering him.
Louise Beebey, 23, of School Avenue, Dewsbury Moor, is separately charged with assisting an offender.
All three have been remanded in custody until the next hearing at Bradford Crown Court on November 25, when they are expected to enter their pleas.
After Mr Collins’ death, close friend Shirley Roberts told the Examiner how he was known as a ‘loveable rogue’.
