Colne Valley businesses cut off after landlord fails to pay electricity bill

DOZENS off businesses were cut off yesterday after their landlord failed to pay an electricity bill.

Hundreds of workers at Colne Valley Business Park were sent home early after the power went off late yesterday morning.

It is thought suppliers pulled the plug after the estate’s London-based owners Primezone failed to pay their bill.

In March the park’s gas supply was cut off after the mill’s landlord fell more than £11,000 behind on their bill.

One business owner yesterday pleaded with the supplier for an extra 24 hours to make alternative arrangements, but the company declined.

It is hoped the businesses will be able to rent a diesel generator as a temporary measure.

But some fear the cost of running a generator will be too expensive.

Janet Etherington, owner of Plus Foods, fears much of her stock is going to perish now her fridges and freezers have stopped working.

She said: “We had no gas for five weeks from the middle of March.

“We were assured there was no problem with the electricity.

“We’re not insured for this because you can’t get insurance for power cuts.”
