KIRKLEES College principal Chris Sadler has announced plans to retire.
He will leave next May, 14 months before the college moves to its new £73m campus at the Waterfront Quarter.
Mr Sadler will be 62 by the time he retires and it brings to an end a career which saw him become an England Under-18 international footballer and lead the town’s college through it’s biggest ever move.
Mr Sadler said: “I have specifically chosen to stay until May 2011 so I can continue to help plan for 2011-12.
“Our exciting estates development plans will become reality in both the north and south of Kirklees over the next few years, with a combination of brand new buildings opening in Huddersfield from September 2012 as part of the Waterfront Development project, and also the re-development of existing buildings to improve facilities and learning environments for our students, particularly in the north.”
As principal and chief executive, Mr Sadler announced his decision at Kirklees College’s corporation meeting last Friday. Staff and students were informed this week.
He added: “The college is also highly ambitious for its staff and so we must press on to continue demonstrating improved performance in teaching, learning and support areas, to move us closer to being an outstanding college for all.
