30 snared in police speeding operation on Meltham Road, Huddersfield
COPS snared thirty motorists in a speeding operation on Meltham Road in Huddersfield over the weekend.
Fixed penalty tickets and court summonses were given to the drivers who were caught at speeds of between 44 and 75mph on the 30mph stretch of road between Lockwood and Netherton.
The road has been affected by 11 serious road traffic collisions over the last 12 months and the issue of speeding vehicles on the road has been raised by nearby residents at recent Partners and Communities Together meetings (PACT) in the area.
PC James Calpin of the Kirklees Road Policing Unit said: "This stretch of road has sadly seen a number of serious incidents over the last year, so because of this and following concerns from the public that were raised recently, we carried out these operations on Saturday and Sunday night.
"It was extremely disappointing to see the number of people speeding through this 30mph zone, but we hope that in light of this and future operations that we will be carrying out in the area, people will start to drive more responsibly."
As well as the action taken against speeders, one driver was arrested for being over the limit and another given a warning for possession of cannabis after a small amount of the drug was found in his car.
