A TOWN centre casino has opened for a second time two years on from its mysterious closure.

Casino Red launched its £5m Northumberland Street venue in November 2008.

But just eight weeks later it closed amid financial difficulties leaving staff and customers in the dark.

Yesterday the casino, housed in the grade II listed former Princess Cinema, re-launched after its owners secured new finance.

Jan Keaney, Deputy General Manager, said a new management team had been brought on board and many of the old staff had come back.

She said: “It certainly won’t be closing down after eight weeks – we’re going to make it a success.

“There’s certainly the demand here because there’s only one other casino in Huddersfield.

“This one has great location in the town centre right near the train station.”

Guests for last night’s and tonight’s re-launch were treated to special live entertainment and a buffet.
