COUNCILLORS have been urged to make the most of green energy.

The Government has changed the rules about renewable energy, allowing councils to sell to the National Grid.

Clr David Woodhead has submitted a motion to Wednesday’s monthly meeting of Kirklees Council supporting the move.

The Holme Valley North Lib Dem said: “The removal of the ban is a really progressive step towards tackling climate change. It provides a massive incentive to local authorities to set up micro-generation schemes to power buildings and to produce energy which can then be sold for profit, raising funds to pay for public services.

“Kirklees is already a leading producer in green energies.

“We need to look at how we can take our expertise and success and move to the next level.”

It will be heard before the Full Council meeting on Wednesday.
