Meltham school bus is stopping in restricted zone at zebra crossing
Oct 18 2010 by Joanne Douglas, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
IT COULD be putting pedestrians at risk.
A school bus has been seen picking children up on restricted zebra crossing zig-zags in Meltham most mornings.
And it’s been blocking sight of the crossing for other motorists as it picks up between 20 and 50 school children at 8.10am every day to take them to Honley High School.
Now, after being caught on camera not only by an Examiner reader, but on Google Street View maps which date back to early this year, First bus say its not acceptable and that they will investigate the matter.
The reader, a teacher who asked not to be named, said: “I think it’s putting people, especially children, at risk.
“It stops on the zebra crossing zig-zags every day, there’s no bus stop there but it’s 50 yards away from the bus terminus.
“When you see children on a busy road waiting for the bus to come to a zebra crossing, it’s an accident waiting to happen.
“Cars coming towards them can’t see anyone crossing behind the bus, maybe even running to get the bus.”
