Huddersfield man in court charged with hacking puppy's ear off

A MAN appeared in court accused of hacking the ear off a puppy.
Shamrez Ali Wasim, of Kirkstone Avenue, Dalton, was before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.
The court heard the two-week-old Staffordshire cross was left in agony after its whole ear was severed on June 24.
Magistrates were told that there had been three attempts to inflict the wound using a sharp instrument, likely a knife or scissors. A vet had to amputate what was left of the male puppy’s ear and close the wound.
Wasim, 27, denies causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
He was due to stand trial yesterday, but magistrates agreed to adjourn his case after a key witness failed to attend.
The court ordered a summons to be issued on the witness.
Wasim was bailed to appear before magistrates for trial on November 26.
