More petrol price rises ahead for Huddersfield motorists

MOTORISTS in Huddersfield can expect further fuel price rises, a petrol retailer has warned.

Chris Stern, of Paddock-based C J Stern (Oils) Ltd, said all the indicators were that pump prices would continue to increase following higher wholesale prices for crude oil.

The lowest prices at Huddersfield forecourts now stand at about 115.9p a litre for unleaded and 118.9p a litre for diesel.

That compares with 111.9p for unleaded and 114.9 for diesel a month ago.

Figures from the AA motoring organisation showed average prices in Yorkshire now stand at 116.8p a litre for unleaded and 120.6p a litre for diesel.

That compares with 114.2p for unleaded and 117.2p for diesel in September.

The average figures for the UK now stand at 117.75p a litre for unleaded, which is up by 2.5p on last month, and 121.30p a litre for diesel, up by 3.28p.

The AA said the cost of filling a tank had risen by £1.25 so far this month – adding £5.30 to the monthly fuel spend of a two-car household.

Mr Stern said: “We have seen a steady move upwards due to the rise in the price of oil.

“We have seen prices rise three times already this month – due to the extra duty which came in at the start of October and the cost of oil going up.

“If oil prices continue to rise, prices will go up again.”

The AA said diesel prices traditionally started to rise in October as US demand for winter heating oil grows.

But AA president Edmund King said the increases had come at a time when most motorists could least afford them.

Mr King said that 93% of passenger journeys were by road – meaning the increases hit the vast majority of people.
