BBC tries to track down triumphant Kirklees It’s a Knockout team of 1976

THEY flew the flag for Britain in Europe.

And now the BBC is trying to track down members of the Kirklees It’s a Knockout team of 1976.

The squad beat the best in Yorkshire to win the right to represent Britain in an international contest.

The BBC is making a nostalgia show looking back at the classic programme.

Knockout

And the broadcaster is keen to track down anyone who took part in an episode which was filmed at Princess Mary Playing Fields in Cleckheaton on May 2, 1976.

On the day the Kirklees team used home advantage to defeat squads from Leeds and Doncaster, winning through to an international heat the following month.

The episode of Jeux Sans Frontieres – the European-wide version of It’s a Knockout – was filmed at Roundhay Park in Leeds.

Kirklees took on some of the giants of the European game that night, including Italians Riva del Garda; Villefranche of France, Dutch side Oldekerk; the Swiss team from Fullinsdorf and Germans Trauntstein.
