BBC tries to track down triumphant Kirklees It’s a Knockout team of 1976

Kirklees claimed a famous victory for Britain – but unfortunately did not win enough points to get through to the grand final in Blackpool.

Examiner reports from 1976 show the team was captained by Rob Blackshaw and also included Brian Hayhurst, who celebrated his 35th birthday on the day of the Roundhay Park event.

Mr Hayhurst, a talented gymnast, later became landlord of The Angel in Paddock and later retired to Spain.

The team’s mascot was Kenny the Lamb and cheerleaders included Jane Morton and Anita Steven.
