Holme Valley artists Brendan Hesmondhalgh and David Cook sell £30,000 of their work at auction

TWO artists have sold £30,000 of their work through iconic auction house Sothebys.

Brendan Hesmondhalgh and David Cook had a collection of their sculptures sold through the Summers Place Auctions in association with Sotheby’s.

David, of Netherton, sold a bronze tortoise sculpture for £10,000.

And many of their pieces will now be shipped off to Russia.

Brendan, of Holmfirth, said: “It’s a different way of selling our work – it’s like a posh ebay.

“I couldn’t go down to see it be sold off but I followed it online and it was quite exciting seeing the pieces go.”

Collectively their sales topped £30,000, to the artists’ delight.

Brendan, who usually sells his work through galleries, added: “Having your work sold at auction by any of the major auction houses can really raise your profile quite quickly.

“It’s exciting to see what people are willing to pay for your work rather than put a price on it. Quite a lot of the work was bought by people in Russia and it’s being shipped out there.”
