Amazing It's a Knockout images recorded by Huddersfield Film Makers Club - see the pictures from 1976

AMAZING images of when Kirklees put one over on Leeds and Doncaster have emerged.

In May 1976 newly formed Kirklees beat the two other Yorkshire areas in BBC TV's It's A Knockout.

The competition, staged on St Mary's Playing Fields in Cleckheaton, attracted more than 4,000 spectators.

The BBC recently put out a call for help through the Examiner as it wanted to speak to people who taken part in the iconic show.

We've put people in touch with the BBC but members of the Huddersfield Film Makers Club have also got in touch with us - to supply us with the screen grabs above.

Treasurer Trevor Spencer said members of what was then called the Huddersfield Cine Club filmed the event for their annual Magazine film.

He added: "On the day of the competition at Cleckheaton, everyone got very wet when halfway through it poured down.

"All the crewhad to put on their waterproofs and they even had coats for the cameras.

"We were granted very good access to the competition, the only instructions being 'keep out of the way of the cameras and don't stray from the footboards'."

The Huddersfield Film Makers Club is presenting its annual A Festival of Film at Huddersfield Town Hall later this month.

The popular event, which runs nightlyon November 15 up to including November 19, features a variety of short films.

Tickets, costing £4.50, are available from the Tourist Information Office in Huddersfield Library, online here or by calling 01484 223200.
