Masked armed robbers hold up bank cash van in Brighouse

Santander

MASKED robbers threatened guards with a sledgehammer and a handgun as they held up a bank cash delivery van in Brighouse last night.

The three, including a masked getaway driver, were in a silver Ford Mondeo which drove down Commercial Street from the direction of Brig Gate and then pulled up outside the Santander bank at about 7.09pm.

Two people jumped from the car and ran to the branch. One was carrying a sledge hammer the second had a handgun.

They demanded the two security guards making a delivery to the bank open a case containing cash. The suspect with the sledge hammer then attacked the cash machine on the outside of the branch.

Both suspects then jumped back in the Mondeo which drove off down Commercial Street.

During the incident a substantial amount of money was stolen.

Security guards delivering cash to the same branch were attacked by robbers in September.

Two men brandished a sledgehammer in an attack on Thursday, September 16 - the aftermath of which is pictured above.

In the latest attack, the first suspect who was carrying the handgun is described as a white male, 5ft 10ins tall and of slight to medium build.

He was wearing a dark hooded waterproof jacket (hood up) and had a full face balaclava with eye holes only.

He also had on black woollen gloves, combat trousers and spoke with a northern (Yorkshire or Lancashire) accent.
