Casino Red hosts charity fundraiser for Cardiac Risk in the Young

FOOTBALL agent Dean Horn has a new goal in life – to raise thousands of pounds for charity in memory of a good friend.

Dean, who lives in Almondbury, is staging a charity evening in Huddersfield next week and is training to run in next year’s London Marathon – as part of a fundraising drive for charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (C-R-Y).

He was prompted to support the cause following the shock death last year of friend Tom Reid, 19, who lived at Garforth, Leeds.

Dean said: “Tom had a heart condition which went undetected for 19 years. While he was in a club in London during University College London Fresher’s Week, something entirely trivial – the bass of the music being played – caused him to go into cardiac arrest.

“Despite the best efforts of an on-site medic, paramedics and university staff, Tom’s life could not be saved.”

Dean said the tragedy had a huge impact on Tom’s family and friends, but also served as a “wake-up” call on several fronts.

He said press coverage of Tom’s death blamed alcohol or drug abuse, until the post mortem revealed Tom had died from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome.
