Johnson Cleaners back Roy Castle fund in charity day

A FUNDRAISER in memory of Scholes-born entertainer Roy Castle took place at the weekend.

Johnson Cleaners on Market Place spent Saturday raising funds for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation as part of a nation-wide charity day.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness month and to support it 107 Johnson Cleaners stores across the country held fundraising events including raffles, prize draws and fancy dress days.

Johnson Cleaners managing director, Paul Ogle, said: “Cancer is a tragic disease that affects many people across the world.

“The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is a tremendous charity and we are delighted to support such a worthwhile cause.”

The total collected will be revealed at the end of the month.

All proceeds will be donated to the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation which works to reach the goal of defeating lung cancer, including carrying out research into the early detection of lung cancer, which will hopefully lead to early diagnosis and save thousands of lives.

Matthew Boyle, director of fundraising at The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said: “We are delighted to have the support of Johnson Cleaners.

“The partnership will not only raise a great amount of money for our charity but also raise awareness of lung cancer.”
