Family reunited after years apart
THEY’VE been living in the same town for generations, yet they’ve been unaware of each others’ existence.
But the Mallinsons and their extended families were finally united on Sunday at Waterloo Bowling Club.
And for many of them, it was their first meeting with their kith and kin.
The reunion was organised by Helen Mallinson and her husband Geoff, both of Shepley.
Some 55 relatives attended, some of whom had not seen each other for decades – and some of whom had never met before.

The relatives were mostly from Lepton, Kirkburton and Colne Valley. The youngest was Samuel Brook, from Golcar, who is four, and the oldest was Joan Mallinson, 87, of Fenay Bridge.
The family, which has remained largely in Huddersfield for eight generations, swapped photographs and memories over nibbles and drinks.
One of the few relatives to leave the area, Christine Mallinson, who now lives in Portugal, researched a family tree for the meeting spanning eight generations back to 1878.
The family tree was passed around the room so relatives could fill in the gaps.
