Car crime warning as winter starts to bite
Nov 24 2010 Huddersfield Daily Examiner
WE’VE seen the weather forecasters this week talking of Arctic blasts and snow.
That means problems for local motorists, with ice making driving even more hazardous. But it could also lead to temptation for some local thieves.
Many drivers sensibly try and clear ice from their car windscreens in a morning by running the engine.
But some also make it easy for the thieves – popping back into their homes and leaving the car on the road or the drive with the engine running.
We have had one car stolen in those circumstances already in Huddersfield and we want to avoid more.
With the onset of freezing cold mornings and icy windscreens likely over the coming weeks and months, I think it’s worth mentioning briefly about the risk of leaving vehicles unattended, keys in the ignition and engines running to clear icy windscreens.
It’s very tempting to leave your car warming up on cold mornings while you pop inside for a cup of coffee, but car owners cannot be complacent. They should never leave their car unattended in this way.
