Former Kirklees Music School building to be converted into student flats

DOZENS of students will move into a town centre building once used as a music school and a church.

Kirklees Council has given permission to convert 5A Northumberland Street into 11 flats with 57 bedrooms.

Council planners gave the proposal the green light on November 18.

The stone building was previously used by Kirklees Music School and Huddersfield Christian Fellowship.

The music school, which has helped thousands of young people since it was set up in 1992, owned the building for three years.

But the school was forced to sell earlier this year when £1m refurbishment funding from Kirklees fell through. It is now based at Beast Market.
