Another bizarre entrance for Santa at Lepton school
SANTA shunned his sleigh in favour of a rather posher form of transport when he dropped in to Huddersfield.
For he shocked youngsters at Rowley Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School when he turned up in a chauffeur-driven 1930s-style Beauford convertible car for the school’s Christmas fair.
Rudolph and the other reindeers were nowhere in sight.
Santa had also brought his wife along for a rare day out in his hectic run up to Christmas Eve when he sets off on his mammoth toy delivery.
The Santas rolled up in the elegant motor supplied at the last minute – and free of charge – by Cartwright Cars, of Kirkheaton.
It’s not the first time Santa has made an unconventional entrance at the Lepton School.
For 15 years the school has treated its pupils to an appearance by Santa as part of its Christmas fair, which is organised by the school’s PTA.
The fair, open to pupils and adults, included a Mr and Mrs Santa grotto along with stalls and activities.
Each year the children have to guess what method of transport Father and Mother Christmas will use.
In previous years Santa has pulled up in a Postman Pat van, a tractor and a sleigh pulled by a 4x4 car.
But, ironically, he’s never been brought to the school on a sleigh drawn by reindeer.
PTA member and organiser of the Christmas fair Eleanor Barraclough said: “We’ve never been able to bring him here on a sleigh with reindeer. But if anyone knows anyone with reindeer we’d love to hear from them.
“Each year it’s a complete surprise for the children and they are always excited with anticipation as to what vehicle it will be.
“Usually we use our parents’ contacts to find a vehicle, but we’d exhausted them.
“Luckily Cartwright Cars director Dick Cartwright was happy to help.”
