Villagers left in the cold by postmen

VILLAGERS claim they’re being frozen out by the postman.

Residents in the hamlet of Magdale in Honley say they have had no post since the snow began over a week ago.

And they claim council gritters have also been unable to reach them.

Robert Charlesworth said: “It seems that when the snow comes everything stops here.

“We haven’t been gritted or ploughed and now the post seems to have stopped too.

“We haven’t had any deliveries since Monday of last week.

“The kids can walk to school okay and we can just about do the shopping and go to work, but something is up with the postmen.”

Royal Mail has apologised and said post would get to locals as soon as possible. But a spokeswoman said many customers in West Yorkshire are facing delays.

Alison Wright, the region’s Royal Mail operations director, said: “We apologise to those customers who have experienced delays to their deliveries as a result of the severe weather.

“I’d like to stress that we are continuing to deliver to the majority of addresses across West Yorkshire.

“Unfortunately, in some cases it is simply not currently possible to do so because of the weather, which has worsened in some areas in recent days. “

Royal Mail is advising customers to post and order goods earlier to ensure they are delivered in time for Christmas.

The last posting dates for Christmas are December 15 for standard parcels, December 18 for second class items, December 21 for first class mail and packets and December 23 for special delivery.
