Huddersfield biker pals Simon Hall and Dudley Martin are Russia bound in a bid to raise cash for orphans
THEY’RE swapping the beat for their bikes.
A pair of intrepid bikers are Russia bound in a bid to help the country’s orphans.
Police officer Simon Hall and retired police biker Dudley Martin are heading east on an epic 4,000 mile charity motorcycle journey.
The pair are set to join a group of about 30 other bikers for the marathon ride from the Isle of Wight to Moscow and back.
They hope to raise thousands for the charity Love Russia which works to help orphans as they move into adult life.
The two-week-long journey will take them through Holland, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus and into Russia.
Simon, who has only been a biker for two years, said he had been to Russia several times before to take part in church projects and was appalled at the conditions for the orphans.
And the 45-year-old traffic cop from Oakes said he was excited to be hitting the road for the journey of a lifetime.
He said: “I’ve been a supporter of Love Russia for about eight years, it’s something close to my heart having been out there and seen the horrible conditions.
“If you’re an orphan in Russia you’re a bit of a leper.
“They’ve got little enough as it is and if they have any sort of disability they stay in isolation for life.
