A SQUADDIE’S stolen motorbike has been returned and a man arrested after an appeal in the Examiner.

Signaller Cpl James Cheesman was devastated after the Suzuki GSXr 600 K4 was taken from his family home on Ashes Lane in Almondbury last month.

Thieves had cut through security chains to steal the high-performance bike in an overnight raid.

The 27-year-old, who had returned from Afghanistan in April following a six-month tour of duty with 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, was stationed in Warminster on training at the time.

After the Examiner story, a tip-off led police to a house on Gilbert Grove in Crosland Moor.

The bike was seized and a 23-year-old man arrested.

Cpl Cheesman’s mum, Cath Walter, said: “Immediately after the article, I had a message on Facebook from someone I didn’t know saying that they had been offered a bike matching the description for £600.

“Then the police got a tip-off and tracked it down.

“I think the story made the bike too hot to handle.

“James feels the bike has been tainted a bit, but he’s really happy to have it back.”

She said there was some minor damage to a wing mirror and the ignition lock, but otherwise the bike was in good condition.
