Huddersfield Christmas Fun Fair kicks off at Brook Street market

THE waltzers will be whizzing today as the Christmas Fun Fair kicks off.

Organisers have brought the popular fair to the town early this year.

And the location has changed yet again – with rides and attractions now set up near the open market alongside Tesco on Brook Street.

Organiser Stewart Robinson said: “For the last two years the fair has taken place on the Cambridge Road car park, but because of the snow and extreme weather the fair was a disaster in 2009 and had its worst ever year.

“So we’ve brought the rides back into the heart of the town to attract more people.”

The fair opens today – rather than its usual Boxing Day start – and will run until Thursday, December 30.

Attractions include rides such as the Sizzler Twist, the waltzers and the Hard Rock Sensation.

Younger children can enjoy the fun-filled Crooked Cottage, trampolines, the cup and saucer ride, the train ride, the pirate ship and the carousel.

The event also has a host of traditional stalls including hoopla games and fairground food and sweet treats.

Stewart said: “This year we are back in the heart of the town and I am really thankful to the local authority for giving me the opportunity to return.”

The fair runs from 11am until 8pm, with the exception of Christmas Day.
