Obituary: Gordon Hewitt

HE was a familiar face in Huddersfield town centre, selling the Examiner and later delivering the Huddersfield Weekly News.

Gordon William Hewitt died suddenly at his Lockwood home, aged 71 earlier this month.

He worked for the Examiner’s newspaper sales department for many years and in 1987 hit the headlines himself when he won a four-day trip to Ireland after qualifying for a draw with Ivy Coaches.

Mr Hewitt’s funeral will be held today (Tuesday) at the Salvation Army Hall in New Hey Road at 10.30am followed by interment at Lockwood cemetery.

Mr Hewitt attended many churches in and around Huddersfield and Halifax including the Salvation Army Hall and the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Crosland Moor.

He leaves two lifelong friends Wendy and Roy.
