A MUM who lost her son to carbon monoxide poisoning is giving out free CO2 alarms on Facebook this Christmas.
Stacey Rodgers, from Deighton, claims the death of her son Dominic could have easily been prevented if only they had a carbon monoxide alarm fitted in their house.
And she wants to prevent other people losing loved ones to the silent killer.
Stacey said: “I’m going to be giving 35 alarms away through my Facebook status – the first 35 people to comment on my status will receive a free alarm.”
Stacey runs the Dominic Rodgers Trust, set up in memory of her son.
Dominic was just 10 when he died from carbon monoxide poisoning at the family home in Spaines Road, Fartown, in February 2004.
Fumes from a neighbour’s faulty boiler seeped into his bedroom as he slept.
Stacey said: “I put Dominic to bed unaware I wasn’t going to see him again.
“The next morning I found Dominic dead in his bed – that morning was the scariest thing I have been through – I didn’t know what had happened to him.
“I was angry and blamed myself. I didn’t know anything about carbon monoxide so I started to research it and within days realised this was something other people should know about and decided to start a campaign.”
Working in partnership with Sprue Safety Products, Stacey is giving out the CO2 alarms which comply with European safety standards.
Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas which is highly poisonous. It can come from appliances that burn fossil fuels such as gas, coal, wood or oil, if they’re not fitted correctly or not working properly.
