Householders get emergency supplies of bottled water
EMERGENCY supplies of bottled water are being shipped out to hundreds of Huddersfield homes hit by The Deep Freeze.
The big rescue mission has been launched by Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing staff swamped by calls from people suffering with frozen pipes in the coldest December for decades.
And although yesterday’stemperatures did rise slightly from Tuesday, readings in Huddersfield still never got above minus 3.5°C.
There is no real sign of a thaw.
Salendine Nook weather expert Paul Stevens believes it will be Boxing Day at the earliest before the weather turns anything like normal.
That could mean frozen-pipe misery over Christmas for many households.
Thousands have reported faults but for many, the only answer is to sit and wait out the freeze.
DIY shops throughout Huddersfield have seen a big rush on pipe lagging material and many have sold out.
Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing staff are trying to direct their help towards the most vulnerable tenants, the elderly and those with health problems.
Andy Selman, KNH director for strategy and resources, said: “This is clearly very severe weather and we are doing all we can to help the Kirklees council tenants that KNH provides services to.
